Why Windows Still Blocks CON, PRN and Other Legacy Filenames

Windows still refuses filenames like CON, PRN, AUX or NUL, along with COM0–COM9 and LPT0–LPT9. These labels came from DOS, where hardware devices were exposed as file-like names. Try to use one today and Windows will throw an error, even though the original hardware no longer exists.
